TOEFL test: There are three major English language proficiency exams that American academic programs use to test a person's ability to speak in English: the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), the Pearson Test of English, Academic (PTE), and the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). The IELTS relies on more British and Australian English, while TOEFL and PTE Academic draw are more concerned with American English. The TOEFL, or Test of English as a Foreign Language, is an exam designed to measure fluency in English. There are four sections to the test: reading, listening, speaking and writing. There are various strategies for success when taking the TOEFL or PTE test: Study habits, organization, grammar rules, recognizing the parts of speech in English such as nouns, verbs, adverbs, adjectives, pronouns, conjunctions, and prepositions. In addition students are encouraged to begin to "think in English." I incorporate all of these strategies into my tutoring lessons. I have tutored numerous foreign language students, all with excellent results, especially where English language fluency is concerned.
